Drywall is a commonly used building material in homes and offices, but did you know that there are different types of drywall available? In this month’s blog, we are going to briefly discuss two types of drywall, standard drywall, and paperless drywall.
What is standard drywall? To begin with, we will talk about the more common kind of drywall, standard drywall. This type of drywall consists of a gypsum core wrapped in very thick paper. It is comparatively easy to work with, can provide a nice smooth finish, and is readily available. The composition of standard drywall makes it especially susceptible to water damage and the problems that can ensue, such as mold growth.
What is paperless drywall? Paperless drywall differs from standard drywall. Instead of thick paper, it is covered with fiberglass and has a water-resistant gypsum core. This creates a much stronger type of drywall that has a greater resistance to water damage. The strength of paperless drywall, though, makes it more difficult to install. It is also more difficult to gain a smooth finish. You may also find that paperless drywall is not as easily available as standard drywall.
Which type of drywall is Best for Your Home? Comparing the strengths and weaknesses of both types of drywall, it becomes clear that paperless drywall would be good to use in high-humidity areas such as basements and bathrooms, etc. Due to its availability and ease of use standard drywall is good for areas of the home that are not as susceptible to damp and large rooms or areas where you want to achieve a smooth finish.
