In this blog, we are going to talk about how many smoke detectors you should have in your home. Fire is a real danger in any home. One of the best ways to protect the household is with smoke alarms. So, how many should you have in your home?

The answer to the question depends on the size of your home. In general, you need to have at least one smoke detector for every habitable floor of the house – this would include the basement and garage. It is also a good idea to install a smoke detector in every occupied bedroom.

Remember, though, that a smoke detector will only do its job if it is working properly. Every month, schedule a time to go through the house and check each smoke detector. Replace the batteries if needed. You must also take care to never disconnect any smoke detectors. It is very easy to do this if it repeatedly goes off during cooking or when it needs new batteries, but we will very likely forget to reconnect it.

From time to time, it is a good idea to think about what you would do if a fire did start in your home. Does everyone living in the house know what steps to take in the event of a fire? If not, take the time to discuss it together. You may also benefit from performing a periodic fire drill. Remember, you can never be too safe when it comes to you and your household.
