Everyone should have good air to breathe. But did you know that very often the air we breathe inside the home is much worse than the air outside? When indoor air quality becomes particularly bad it can have negative health consequences. Let’s look at one of the reasons a home might experience poor air quality.

A significant reason for poor indoor air quality is biological pollutants. What are they? They are living organisms, or at least fragments of them, that are found floating around in the air we breathe. Some examples of bio pollutants include pollen, pet dander, dust mites, cockroach parts, bacteria, and viruses. If you are wondering whether your home contains bio pollutants, then be advised that it probably does, as they are found in practically every home.

Is there anything that can be done to lower the level of biological pollutants in your home? While it may be extremely hard to completely rid your home of these pollutants, you can do some things to reduce them. For example, bio pollutants are most likely to thrive in humid conditions, so if your home has high humidity levels, try to reduce them. You can do so with a dehumidifier or an air conditioning unit. Just be aware that these units must be cleaned regularly, or they will encourage bio pollutants instead of reducing them.
