In our blog earlier this month, we talked about the causes of hard water and the indications that your home has it. This time we will address another question that many have regarding hard water, can it affect your health?

As we mentioned last time, hard water causes soap scum to form, which is difficult to rinse away. When this soap is left on our skin, it may result in some skin irritation. It is worthy to note, however, that according to the World Health Organization, there is no convincing evidence that hard water will have a negative impact on a person’s health. Studies actually showed that, possibly because of its high mineral content, hard water may help the body in fighting disease. So, hard water may have its advantages.

If hard water is becoming a problem for you, what can you do about it? You could try a water conditioner or water softener designed to remove some of the mineral content from the water. Make sure you take your time when deciding which kind to get and do your research on them, as you may end up with more sodium in the water than you should, which would turn the water into something undrinkable.
