Household appliances do not last forever, and the home’s water heater is no exception. We all know that for a home to function well it needs to have a good water heater. So, how long can you expect the average household water heater to last?
If we are going with a general rule, a water heater will last for about 10 years. But what are some factors that may alter this time frame?

Wear and tear. As with any appliance, the more use the water heater gets, the greater the wear and tear placed on it which will reduce its lifespan.

Installation. How and where the water heater has been installed will also contribute to the amount of time it will last. It is worth the money to hire a professional to install the water heater as it is a job that is much harder than it looks, particularly with tankless gas heaters. The area the water heater is installed should also be well thought out. If it is placed in an area prone to flooding, this will greatly reduce the life of the heater.

Quality. Again, like most appliances, you get what you pay for so if the water heater is cheap and does not have a longer warranty, it will have a shorter lifespan.
